Pasadena Violin Studio
About Andrea Baker
Andrea Baker has been teaching classical violin to children and young adult students for several years in music schools in the Pasadena, CA area and from her home studio. She has studied the violin pedagogy methods of dozens of master players and teachers, and uses a combination of several methods in her teaching, incorporating the Suzuki Method, sight-reading instruction, music theory workbooks, games and interactive software to ensure students receive a well-rounded music education.
Besides classical violin, Andrea also teaches contemporary style violin, fiddle and improvisational technique to beginning and intermediate students. She has studied and teaches violin techniques of music genres from around the world, including rock, blues, Scottish fiddle, and Middle Eastern music.
Outside of the teaching studio, Andrea performs regularly in both classical and modern music styles, including rock, blues, Scottish, and Middle Eastern. She has performed on national television on the reality show "America's Next Great Band," as well as on NPR radio shows and dozens of solo performances live with "The Moth Mainstage" storytelling show. She performs solo and in several duos, bands and ensembles, has played with several orchestras, and has toured internationally with an alt-country band and a theater troupe.
Andrea is passionate about exploring people and their music in cultures around the world, and in sharing the expression of our collective human experience through the vehicle of music.
